Kindersley & District Co-op is a locally owned and operated retail co-operative serving Kindersley and the surrounding communities. We proudly operate Food Stores, Agro Centres, Gas Bars and Convenience Stores, Home Centres, Liquor Stores, Pharmacies, and more—focused on meeting the needs of our members and customers right here at home.

Who owns and operates Kindersley & District Co-op?

Kindersley & District Co-op is owned by its members. Our members democratically elect a local Board of Directors, who work alongside management to guide the Co-op’s direction and ensure decisions reflect the needs of our community.

Why is Kindersley & District Co-op different from other Co-ops?

Every Co-op is unique because it serves its own community. Our Co-op is shaped by the needs, values, and priorities of the Kindersley area and surrounding communities.

How is Kindersley & District Co-op different from other businesses?

As a co-operative, we exist to serve our members—not outside shareholders. Profits are reinvested back into the Co-op through improved services, facilities, local initiatives, and potential returns to our members.

What is a co-operative?

The International Co-operative Alliance defines a co-operative as an autonomous association of people who voluntarily come together to meet common economic, social, and cultural needs through a jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprise.

Membership

Do I  need to be a member to shop at Kindersley & District Co-op?

No. Everyone is welcome to shop at our locations—membership is not required.

Who can become a member?

Membership with Kindersley & District Co-op is generally open to individuals 16 years of age or older, as well as businesses.

How do I become a member?

Becoming a member is easy. Complete a Membership Application at any Kindersley & District Co-op location or online, and pay the lifetime membership fee of $5.00.

What is a Co-op number?

Once your membership application is processed, you will receive a Kindersley & District Co-op number. This number is used when making purchases and helps track your spending for potential cash back and equity.

Can I use my Co-op number at other Co-op locations?

Your Co-op number is specific to Kindersley & District Co-op and can only be used at our locations. Because each Co-op is independently owned and governed, Co-op numbers are not transferable across Western Canada. However, you may hold memberships with multiple Co-ops if you choose.

What is cash back and equity?

When approved by the Board of Directors, Kindersley & District Co-op may share profits with members based on their purchases throughout the year. Members may receive a portion as cash back, with the remainder allocated to an equity account that grows over time.

When do I receive cash back and equity?

Cash back and equity are distributed after the Co-op’s fiscal year-end, once financial reporting is complete, and only if approved by the Board of Directors.

Why do you require my Social Insurance Number (SIN)?

Your Social Insurance Number is required under the Income Tax Act for tax reporting purposes. Cash back and equity distributions are considered taxable income, and Kindersley & District Co-op may issue a T4A prior to tax filing deadlines.
